That was Yesterday

Living in the past and viewing the past is two totally different belief systems and behaviors. A scenario from a co-worker can best explain the distinction. The names have been altered.

Moon: I think I made a mistake.

River: What do you mean? What happened?

Moon: Well, I was going over my messages that I’ve sent over to the head office and I think that I put the wrong message on another’s client’s chart.

(Moon’s normal small eyes are huge like her name.)

River: Ok Moon, let me look at the case and see. I’ll come over to your desk.

(River gears up for the worst to access the damage. Outwardly she’s cool, inside she’s trying to find the road, she needs to navigate the situation and Moon. Moon retells the story and shows River on the computer what possibly could have passed for the mix-up. As River listens, she has visibly seen the process of why this happened. Moon completes her explanation. She looks to River to repair the situation. She looks for hope.)

River: Ok Moon. First of all, you just got here and you’re not going to know everything about this position. Second, it’s not that bad. Let me make a phone call and speak with my go-to person there so we can rectify this. In the meantime, I will add an addendum to the note you’ve sent.

(Moon’s face softens, and her shoulders relax – a bit. River madly writes the new note as Moon watches. River notices Moon’s mouth is made into an ‘o’. She’s breathing through her mouth.)

(River calls her contact. They discuss the messages and several options how this can be handled. They determine, as Moon intently watches River’s face and listens to half the telephone conversation. River hangs up.)

River: Ok Moon, this is how we decided to manage the messages.

Moon: Am I in trouble? Oh, my… I just got here…

River: Calm down Moon. You’re not in any trouble. You just got here, and we don’t expect for you to know everything. Errors will be cleared, but the good thing about this is, you will think of this moment and know what to do if this situation comes up again. Also, the client will be fine. It was merely a matter, ensuring the client’s actual message was fixed. So, it’s alright, really. Everything has been worked out for you.

Moon: Oh, thank you River. I really appreciate all your help.

River: You’re welcome, but let me ask you a question. What made you look back at your message?

Moon: I check them because I want to see if I made any mistakes and when I saw that I knew was not the message I had written for the correct person.

River: Well, it was a good thing that you went over the message. But all is well now so just be mindful of the names on the account. Just take your time, okay?

Moon: I will. But I could have sworn I wrote that message on the other account.

River: Well, it’s fine now.

(For River the situation is over, and she goes back to her work.)

Silence.

A couple of minutes later River looks up and sees Moon staring at the computer screen and holding her arm.

River: Moon, are you ok?

Moon: She turns around, “Yes, I am fine. We did all that we could, and I will watch the accounts to make sure I notate the correct one.”

River: You’re sure you’re all right?

Moon: Yes, that was yesterday. I’m good. I did all that I knew to do. I can do no more

When Moon made that statement about “that was yesterday” it touched me deeply. Here was a scenario that could have run amiss. The confusion could have potentially been distressing for the client. Moon listened to her intuition to check on her work, and she obeyed. She asked for help, nervously trusted the situation to someone whom she felt would make the best possible assessment and waited. She waited for an unknown outcome, hoping it would be favorable. I could see the questions forming in her mind from possible past similar experiences. Being a new employee would this be a blight on her new journey? Me telling her what the other voice she couldn’t hear on the phone say the solution worked in her favor. I saw her finally breathe a full breath and let it go. Moon allowed herself to feel and experience her emotions. She allowed them to pass through her and not keep them bottled up inside of her soul to create wounds. Her silence came not to keep rehashing the situation in her mind, but to allow peace, contentment and gratefulness to occupy the place where fear once resided. Her simple reply, “that was yesterday” is a person who was now viewing her past and living in the moment.

Gleaning from this hour scenario I sat at my desk and thought about past situations that I was still living in. I decided that when I got to my safe place, I’d write each one down. I did. I also decided that no matter where I’m at in the process I would say to each one, “that was yesterday.”

What are you going to say to the unpleasant childhood memories? Are you going to continue to live in the past or view them from the present with no toxic emotional attachment? Are you going to forgive all parties involved and that does include yourself? Are you going to finally accept you did what you thought was best at the moment, and the belief or behavior you used to protect you no longer serves you? Or are you going to allow yourself to finally say, “that was yesterday?”

Healthy is the New S.E.X.Y.

journeyconnectBefore I begin, this blog it is not to put down anyone’s weight loss program or dietary regimen. This blog is not solely about physical weight or diet. It’s about focusing our attention and listening to what “health” and being emotionally and mentally healthy has to sound out. This is a movement to bring “Healthy” back to center stage.

Today, more than ever in our present climate, we necessitate taking charge of our inner house – thoughts and emotions. With social media feeds swiftly reporting the political and social contentions it’s easy to get overwhelmed, discouraged, and pressed down. Hearing and reading these feeds excessively will breed presupposed fears and behaviors that lead to desperate actions. This induces the physical body and brain to work in a ceaseless state of injury. Runaway thoughts will torment your mind while your emotions are roller coasting all over the place.  These extreme changes will manifest in illness and dis-ease.

focus2My mission in this hour is to pay attention and centering on being healthy emotionally and mentally. We totally need a safe space to vent our concerns and promote one another. Whether you’re single, married, have children or not, employed, unemployed, or self-employed we all call for encouragement. Communication is more than just language. It’s listening, viewing, really hearing and reading between the lines what someone is saying or not saying.

I am asking that you look and listen to your family, those in your work environment, friends, significant others and really pay attention to them.  Write, text, or email them a note to encourage and brighten their day.  I started this at my place of employment with some of the ladies that I work with. It has really got off and is positively affecting their day.

boygirltagI enjoy games. Recall the game “IT”? Where you hit someone while running and yell “You’re it!” Well, I took the premise of this childhood game and updated it to fit our current way of communication and connecting. I.T. is an acronym for “Infinite’s Tiara” which means you’re “God’s Crown” and S.E.X.Y means “Souls. E.volving. X.periencing. Y.ou.” Your soul is ever-changing to higher states of living, thinking, and being.

All you have to do is send someone an encouraging word by text, email, or a handwritten note. It doesn’t matter if they are passing through a trying moment or in a good head space right now. To recognize that somebody is paying attention to you just feels good. Kind words can be stored up in your psyche for those days when you’re not in a secure place.

Here is an example, “Your I.T., the Infinite’s Tiara: I know you have a lot on your plate right now. With a sick parent, planning a wedding, and more job duties, wearing these many hats is tremendous pressure on you.  When all you really want is to just be you and left alone for a few minutes to breathe.  This weekend, take some time and steal away to a tranquil spot.  Even if you have to drive I-285 and scream to release the weight of your responsibilities off  and out of your body- do so.  Your mind, body and soul will thank you and bring you a gift – a new perspective.” #HealthyistheNewSEXY. Remember to place a hashtag before Healthy is the New S.E.XY. So it will be written #HealthyistheNewSEXY.  This is the tag line of the movement.

woman with diaryI have so much on my plate that I am reducing my blog to bi-monthly. The next blog is April 5th. In the meantime #hashtag people in your life an encouraging word and let their endorphins bring a smile to their soul. Lastly, enjoy a man and a song that can make anyone feel good – Sylvester and 2 Tons of Fun!

You’re I.T. The Infinite’s Tiara: Go out and dance those blues away! #HealthyistheNewSEXY

Set Your Intentions – Be Brave!

Set Your Intentions – Be Brave!

200338534-001

May is my birthday month. Yes, my age changes, but I’m more concerned with maturing spiritually, mentally, intellectually, socially, financially, and relationally. I called for an inventory of what things need to be modified and what needs to go away.

As a good deal, I’ve read from life coaches to listen to your “gut” or “internal voice” I found it challenging to act thus. Why? I allowed my emotions to run amok and speak louder in situations, thus overruling and distorting my perception. But I told myself for the month of May I wanted to do something different and I did. Yes, my emotions bucked because they were used to ruling the roost. But I made myself sit quietly and allow my emotions, their say, and then when they wound down I said four words – PRESENT, PROTECTED, PRAISE, & PEACE.

Now mind you I learned this meditation technique from Richard Miller, PhD  founding president of the Integrative Restorative Institute. The following exercise has greatly aided in calming my mind and easing my soul into a lying state. It didn’t matter the surroundings, I was in I still was able to do this technique. At work, on the bus, walking, and in my car now, it works. As you practice this exercise you will notice unresolved past hurts enter your mind like a New York marquee sign. It’s tiring and nerve-wracking but believe it or not, it’s a good thing. The more unresolved issues that are elevated to the surface means it’s time to release or modify. Too, this exercise assisted in discovering the little voice to identify which one that I needed to perform.

maturemeditationAs you answer the following questions pay attention to how they make you feel. Start with your first knee-jerk response. Don’t think long or you’ll think wrong. You desire that “what feels good” solution.

1. What is my deepest desire for practicing meditation?

2. How many minutes each session am I truly willing to dedicate to the practice?

3. How many days a week am I truly willing to meditate?

4. With respect to a particular meditation session, what is my deepest desire for and during this session? (For instance, is your goal to welcome a particular sensation or to remain undistracted by what’s arising in your awareness, and instead to experience and abide as awareness?)

“Then, express each intention as a concise statement of fact in the present tense, as if it’s already true. This enables your subconscious mind to register your intentions as actualities instead of possibilities, giving them greater power to materialize. For example, instead of saying, ‘I will meditate five days a week for 20 minutes each time,’ affirm, ‘I meditate five days a week for 20 minutes each time.

Next, pick one, two, or even three intentions and shorten them into simple, easily remembered phrases. For instance: ‘I meditate three times a week for 10 minutes each time’ can be stated as ‘Three and 10!’ ‘I’m kind and compassionate toward myself’ becomes ‘Kindness!’ And ‘I speak truth in each and every moment’ becomes ‘Truth!

Finally, repeat your intentions internally to yourself at the beginning of, throughout, and at the end of every meditation practice. Always affirm your intentions with deep feeling and certainty, with your entire body and mind.”1

Phamily, practice this exercise and reply below if it helps you as a good deal as it has served me. Here’s to your excellence in soul (intellect, body, emotions) health!focus2

According to Dictionary.com unleash means, “to release from or as if from a leash; set loose to pursue or run at will; to abandon control of.”

As of late I’m noticing it more in realms of healing, health, energy, movement, growth, spirituality, and technology.  These headings are interchangeable and can be subheadings under each subject.  But unleash is the common denominator that each share and is applied to a motion.

blackwomandesk

Recently I was hired for a new assignment with a major corporation. Admittedly I was excited after a twelve-year lesson that tore down a shoddy foundation. And yes, I am still being built, “over, again, another.” Daily I’m unleashing energies that I inherited from wounded souls and some I accepted as my own. And those traits I don’t necessarily care for that will possibly remain I am learning to walk with. Hate it. But the entity Peace is the goal for my soul. That is the energy I choose to abide in and with.

I know you’re probably wondering what does this have to do with my new assignment. Well, I’m in an environment that literally has systems in place that care about their employees, emotional, physical, social, relational, and educational well-being. I’ve walked into what I knew from being in the opposite, a place of what a business culture should be built upon.

Have you ever waited for the other foot to drop? That’s how I feel sometimes but each time I walk through the door I’m greeted with a hearty ‘Good Morning’ and a smile from ninety-nine percent of the employees including upper management. Wow! I sat in Orientation thinking asinine questions like:

1. Do I deserve this?

2. Can I really perform in this position?

3. Can I handle all this information?

4. Is this the place I’m supposed to be?

5. Can I bring value to this position?

6. Will I be promotable in six months?

I mean I’m sitting there and all of these questions and more are running through my head. I’ve had to tell myself daily that they wouldn’t have hired me if they thought I couldn’t do the job. So come on girl, let’s do the job. You would think the last twelve years I had time to release negative beliefs.  But it seems a portion of them have been hiding and waiting for this golden moment to rear their ugly heads. AGH!

blackwomandesert

Then again, maybe it was divinely appointed for them to rear their heads. I needed to see them, identify, thank and release them, and tell them their services are no longer needed. The last twelve years of being in the wilderness came with a mindset of social and relational skills to survive in isolation.  Connecting with people again, and not just in a corporate environment is overwhelming at times. I’m taking it slow and making sure that I breathe. That’s very important. Breathe. Unleash. Breathe. Unleash.

“I’m worthy. Breathe. Unleash.

I deserve to be here. Breathe. Unleash.

Go your speed. Breathe. Unleash.

This place is not your past. Breathe. Unleash.

You’re in a new place. Breathe. Unleash.

Smile. Breathe. Unleash.

Good Morning. Breathe. Unleash.

At times, we have to travel in our illustrious past to see the courageous women who paved the way for us to be in settings we only dreamed of. My sister friend and blogger Couture Purpose does an eloquent job of paying homage to women who sometimes go unsung but their deeds live on. Check out her blog where “Couture Purpose is ‘designed to make statements.’

Now that we are springing forward know that you are moving in new places, spaces, and atmospheres! It’s because you’ve paid the cost and deserve to be there. Now go further!

Go Further

These two words from a sister friend haunt, yet, excites me. It’s a challenge to go beyond what you’ve been told, what you’ve heard, and what you’ve seen. It matters not the dysfunctional family circumstance, or not, you were born into. Your past familial decisions and interactions, yes, can be a factor but in your grasp, you have the power of choice. Another statement echoes heavily in my mind, “When you know better you do better.” You do have viable thoughts, a relevant voice, and emotions that can be healed and balanced. I’m stating what I’m practicing daily. Go further.

Go further.

connectdaughter

Being African American, majored in African American Studies, and a reader I’m constantly reminded of those who’ve laid down their very lives for freedom?  Sometimes I wonder if this is really the 21st century. It’s funny. I’ve been rummaging through my black history books and papers from undergraduate and graduate school. I compared articles from the past with articles in the present. With the exception of the date, names, and places it’s a “Different century but same shit.”  It’s sad that we have to proclaim that #BlackLivesMatter in 2016. Just as “Black Power” was the war cry of the late 60s and 70s this is our rallying cry in the new millennium. Really?! When I see that hashtag an image in my head from Spike Lee’s movie, “School Daze,” stands out and it’s at the end of the movie. Laurence Fishburne is outside in the college yard screaming at the top of his lungs “WAKE UP!” Beyoncé is on the chopping block for her song “Formation” at Super Bowl Fifty for honoring her culture. WOW! Look at the media hype when someone of her stature honors her culture. The true consciousness of a people emerges when a culture takes pride in their ethnicity. The terms “radical, arrogant, terrorist, militant, thug, not appropriate” among others are yelled in arrogance and ignorance. Sad.  I want to act surprised but I can’t. This is the reality as of February 14, 2016, and it’s getting worse.

Go further.

businessfurther

People are being let go from their employment without a hint of the impending notice. The sensitivity and delicate subject of releasing employees are handled like pigs in a slaughterhouse. They are not withdrawing enough monies from their employees to even file for unemployment. This is devastating for families who are living paycheck to paycheck which is ninety-eight percent of America.

Even as I write this I still hear “go further,” ringing in my head. I believe there is something beyond this level of consciousness that we are to exhibit. It will take guts, courage, risk, insight, and faith for humanity to make this jump to a higher consciousness.

Can it be done? Yes, one person waking up, letting go of what no longer serves them, learning the lessons in every situation, and courageously taking steps one day at a time.

Will it be done? Yes, by few, but sincere and choosing to live, walk, and be in their authenticity.

Go further is a mandate. It’s a proclamation followed by individual decrees. It’s a resolve to be an authentic human, be the change in the world, and to not be sidetracked by the rhetorical garbage spewing in every form of media.

Allow a different spirit to overtake you and see there are no giants in the land. That power is in your hand, and if not, ask the Universe to show you who took your power and take it back! The Universe is waiting for you to show up. The Universe is on your side and loves you. I know it’s hard to believe that but take the risk and find out for yourself. This is your time to “Go Further!”

Mini or Me?

Mini or Me?

MiniorMe-

I’m sure you’ve seen the Austin Power movies with Dr. Evil and his sidekick Mini-Me who mimics him. Watching a marathon of these movies, I can’t remember which one, Dr. Evil’s biological son returns home and Mini-Me gets jealous. In his mind, he’s been the faithful son for a long time and now he’s being replaced. He desperately tries to regain his position with Dr. Evil but he rejects Mini-Me’s attempts at mimicking him. What once made Dr. Evil so happy is now a turn off to him since his biological son has returned.

fatherdaughterskyI thought of how children try their hardest to impress their parents especially first born children. Parenting does not come with a rule book, or a set of instructions to teach you how to raise a child. So what do most parents do? They raise their child like how they were raised. Teaching them the same way as they were taught but not giving a thought at times that not everything they learned was necessarily all good. Parents pass down character traits, beliefs, mannerisms, opinions, ideologies, likes, dislikes, and even colloquial terms that first born children pick up quickly.

motherdaughtercookingMy last blog talked about uncreating verbal contracts that we make on a daily basis consciously or subconsciously with words. Before I go any further let me be very clear again not everything taught by parents were in error or removed you away from your authentic self. For instance, my mother’s love of reading, writing, and the English language is my love too. That’s a good thing. But her fear of people and evading conflict was not a good thing and I picked that up as well. You see where I’m going with this. Her books became her escapism to not face harsh realities. And as much as I saw that and disliked it I too did the same thing. It’s not easy tearing away the parts of you that were consummated from a parent. Your emotions are torn in half because you are divorcing yourself from their wounded soul to reclaim your true identity, emotions, thoughts, and voice. It feels like a betrayal. You’ve been a mini-me image living in their world for so long that now that you want to reclaim your authentic self but it feels like abandonment. And to be honest with you, you are abandoning certain traits that were never you in the first place. It’s okay.

motherdaughtersittingThis is an identity contract that you must uncreate. Children no matter the birth order are born with their own unique personality. It’s not fair to their psyche or the Creator to repress their thoughts, emotions, and voice. Yes, they will have features, and partial mannerisms but they will have an opinion and a voice. Let them. Actually, Dr. Evil did Mini-Me a huge favor by rejecting him. I know it didn’t feel right at the moment. Dr. Evil, without thought, sliced Mini-Me away from him but in the end, Mini-Me discovered he was his own person and didn’t need Dr. Evil.

As harsh at it may be seizing your soul back from another soul is the best thing you can do for yourself. Discovering your thoughts, beliefs, mannerism, and voice is an exciting adventure that is priceless. Think about it two souls housed in one soul are multiple souls or personalities vying for top position. Eventually, one will reign supreme and you are forced to make the decision as to which one it will be.

We’re moving into February but by year’s end don’t you want to know the person in the mirror staring back? Take some time before the next blog and write down:

  • Several things that you learned from a parent or one in authority over you as a child that you no longer serves you.
  • Uncreate the contract with that character trait, word, belief, mannerism, opinion, ideology, and replace it with what YOU want.
  • Go back to the last blog and repeat the words to uncreate the contract with what you’ve written above or write your own. Empower yourself utilizing your own words.
  • Start your discovery journal of what you really think, believe, and say it aloud to hear your voice. It’s something about hearing the sound of your voice in your ears that makes this exercise real in reclaiming your soul.

God made you in His image. If you look around not one person looks like the other except identical twins and even they have differences. It’s time for your image to be known in the earth, your thoughts to be written, and voiced in the earth. It’s time for you to be present and accounted for, not mini-me, just me.

Hey, Phamily!

I hope all is well with you and those you love! We’ve now experienced the first week of the new year. Was it a good week? I hope it was. Mine has been a culmination of emotions, situations, cleansings, and expansions but, all in all, they have been needed. Change, Removal, Restoral, Transformations, Elevations are all a part of breakthroughs. Be ye physical, emotional, mental, or in your soul, they all come with their own unique manifestations and mechanisms for us to be more authentic in mind, body and soul.

Well, on to what I’ve been revealing on my new Facebook page, “Author Lana M Hooks.” Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I post vignette’s of “Breakthroughs” that I want to happen in the near future. So I write them down as if they’ve already occurred. It’s my way of acknowledging my growth, my expansion into new areas of my life, my emotions healed and living my dreams. We need to know that we won’t be the same person tomorrow if we do the work needed now to change. I honestly believe if we remember, recognize, remove, and restore our authentic emotions, thoughts, and voice we will live our lives authentically and our dreams will manifest themselves.

I know some people may not be Facebook users or just taking a break and I didn’t want you to miss out on the vignette’s I posted this week. I am posting them all today in my blog and would love to hear back from you some of your “Breakthroughs” that you’d like to have happened in your life. This does not replace my bi-weekly blog this is in addition to it that I will post beginning next week on the same days I post on Facebook. I just don’t want you to miss out on you being a part of the #Breakthroughseries2016! I have friends who’ll be assisting you in your breakthroughs! Read my friend Neil Vermillion’s blog. He gives divine insight to propel you along further on your journey!

A Blessed Holyday and New Season in 2016

snow1I miss the snow!!! Living in the south snow is the one part of nature that reminds me of happier times, serenity, and fresh starts! So this picture is my reminder of FRESH STARTS! What’s yours? (Just a little homework for the holydays…lol)

I would like to take this time and thank all of the people who supported me this year by reading my blog and sharing it with others. And thank you to Alicia Cunningham and Nicole Cunningham for being my guest bloggers! Love their coloring books for adults. Great gift for the child in you that loves to color! I’ll be looking for more guest bloggers in 2016!

Keep reading, sharing and subscribing!

It’s no small feat that in between your day to day life task and challenges that you took your time and read what was on my heart. I hope that in some way it gave you peace, shown light along your journey, or was an answer to a question.

In January, specifically, January 2nd I will return with NEW BLOG TOPICS and FREEBIES for you. Also, I’ve written a workbook about building new emotional foundations and strategies and how to execute them. Can’t wait to get it in your hands!

As you are carving a ham, turkey, duck, or lamb do the same for yourself. Time is precious so don’t let it all be for others and none for yourself.

  • Reflect on this year and spend time with the Divine to see what next is in store for you.

  • Review what beliefs you laid to the side and those you are now walking out into your being.

  • Reject any thoughts that try to invade your space to want to pull you from your space of contentment, peace, love, joy, forgiveness, etc.

  • Renew your mind, body, and physical space.

1. Meditate beforehand when you know you will be around family, friends, and co-workers. If you decide, for your well-being, that you don’t want to, it’s perfectly okay. Be at peace with your decision.
2. Don’t forget to take a walk, yoga, aerobics, weight training, whatever your thing is, just move your body. If you are in a geographic location where the weather is nice then get out and enjoy nature. If not, open your curtains, look a the snow while YouTube has your favorite exercise video on and go for it! Lol! Just don’t forget to take care of your temple!
3. Lastly, switch furniture around or buy that item you’ve been spying in the store since forever. I know I am! You know, that little something that reminds you that this year you did some inner work and you see the changes. You are not undervaluing your worth anymore! You see the validity in your thoughts, opinions, and words. So purchase that candle, dress, shoes, makeup, journal, pen, tablet, whatever your item is purchase it – on SALE of course and preferably after Christmas…lol!

Well Phamily I wish you and those who love you a

BLESSED HOLYDAY AND A 2016 WITH NEW ADVENTURES, BREAKTHROUGHS, AND GOALS!

Enjoy one of my favorite songs “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway

One more thing if you are looking for a gift consider purchasing my book “Dirty Breath: Trapped by Rejection.” If you don’t want repeats of behaviors, actions or words then this is the book for you. Recognize and lay aside patterns so when you look in the mirror you recognize the person looking back. lana_web_book_cover

My Halloween Story

upside down

For the last fifteen years my life has been turned upside down financially, spiritually, socially, physically, combined with the transitioning of family members. I’ve cried, screamed, distanced myself, smiled, attached, forgave, and acquired new belief systems, while old ones weren’t going without a fight. To be more specific, financially, I have been in a place of learning that money is a tool to be utilized to give, build up, be a blessing, to restore dreams and prolong life. I’ve had the entity called Pride knocked outta of me to ask for help, learned how to separate my wants from my needs, and God can do more with less. But the greatest lesson was to learn that God is the supplier of all my needs, wants and desires. Places of employment are the means of earning a paycheck, meeting new people, and learning new skills but again it is not my supplier. Even though I’ve learned this lesson the Universe never stopped downloading dreams and goals that I strongly wanted to perform in the earth. A major part of my personality is that I’m goal oriented. I eagerly worked on those dreams and goals which started off wonderfully but ended up either fizzling out or floating on a buoy.

I’ve lived a certain way and with that comes a mindset due to circumstances of “well, I guess it’s going to be this way.”  The promises made from the Universe still remained dreams and not manifestations. And it didn’t matter how many people known and unknown were sent my way to keep the dreams alive the disappointments of them not coming into fruition produced a hope deferred. Whether I consciously said it aloud or as a subconscious decision it was made nonetheless.

AB11876This year came in with a different aura. The entity “Hope” was spreading her message all through the land from secular to sacred and both were speaking the same language. I was listening. I heard her cry in the streets and opened my window to let her voice ring in my house. I was happy, excited, and elated until I saw in the third quarter that those promises, dreams, and goals made to me were popping out of my journals, in dreams, and people’s voice to make way for them to manifest. I really believed I was ready! Even though I had been waiting for a very long time I just knew I was ready but my past was right there too. It brought along with it my disappointments, mistrust, deferred hope, rejected attempts, and used to “the way” I had been living which was barely enough to make it by the skin of my teeth. A few insecurities, bad judgements, and misperceptions were thrown in the mix too from having passed this way before in religious settings where I experienced “religious abuse.” To put it succinctly I was scared shitless. Fear ten Hope three but Hope had a plan in the hole.

heart broken womanHope and I have been riding together for a long time. We were down like ‘four flat tires and a spare,’ but I was scared and my heart remembered too much. But she was not giving up that easy. This Halloween was different for me. I don’t celebrate it but damn if the witches, ghouls, ghost, and nightmares didn’t join my past to scare me from making a choice. I woke up from a dream that was not pretty but I knew it was from God. I researched the places, colors, light, dark, objects, etc., and I kinda’ knew what it was speaking but I asked God to reveal what He was really saying to me. I sat my tablet down.

I am taking a webinar course on Influence Training and it is spiritual but not religious. It was a panel of people praying for men and women fifty and over to go the length and “do” their dreams. I was watching the chat bar line being filled with request for prayer for sicknesses, finances, etc. I added my request to the plethora of wants/needs to the chat line.

Transparency: I asked prayer for the entity of ‘Rejection’ and ‘Inferiority’ to be removed.

amazed womanThe chat bar was moving like lightning and even though it was at least four people on the panel watching it and praying for various people I ‘hoped’ someone would see my request. Certain words were being spoken to various people and I was sincerely happy for them to be receiving words of encouragement and kindness. And yes, some of those words rang for me as well and I received them, but it was not until one man who I thought left the webinar came back onto the panel. He said (not verbatim but close to it), “there are people on here who have lived a certain lifestyle for a very long time and are afraid that their promises won’t happen. You’ve been rejected by people and attempts to do better but you decided whether you knew it or not that life wasn’t going to get any better than this.” My mouth hit the floor. He also said, “In a way you’ve gotten use to lack and not having, thinking that well, it’s probably going to be this way, but God says emphatically, No! The promises I’ve made to you are coming to pass. Trust me. Believe one more time and watch me make them come to pass.” As I sat on my wooden bench in front of my laptop I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. God not only answered my request but the dream He gave me that early morning was explained in the word He gave the guy. In that instance I chose to believe Him one more time. It reminded me of a moment I had on New Year’s Eve back in nineteen ninety-four when I made a lifestyle change. The heaviness and dread lifted and I know this is my time. I made a conscious decision to leave my past, beliefs, and the feelings of that era behind. Now I’m not naïve to know that I will have to work my dreams out but I’m collaborating with some wonderful people who mean business. They desire to leave a legacy for our children and another kingdom built on and in Love.

Yeah, my Halloween was spooky but Hope, God, and my conscious decision scared the boogeymen away. And on top of that I had an extra hour to sleep and be restored down to the cellular level. November 1st came in with a refreshing.

If I’m speaking to anyone who has been abused religiously or even in relationships with people of authority and the entities ‘Fear, Rejection, Abandonment, and Verbal Abuse’ are trying to keep you in your past – RUN!  I know the emotions from yesteryear will try and convince you that it won’t be any better but it will be better this time. No, I didn’t say it will be rainbows and lollipops but trust the God of your creation to make it better. Yeah, I know, I trusted Him lotsa times too and nothing came of it but today you know what I discovered? I wasn’t ready for those dreams back then. He was just showing them to me because He wanted me to get my feet wet, reveal to me my pattern of leadership, and to know that my original desires to have a business He honored then and honors now. But we can’t do it alone. I know that’s scary, believe me, I know. But He will send people to assist you so trust and listen to your instincts, guts, and that nagging you feel…lol! Ask for Lady Wisdom and she will show up and give you the words to speak and ears to listen. These new people may have some traits of those that abused you before but take a breath, get still, and ask for your angels to surround you along with Peace. These are not those people. It will work out for you. I believe that for you and for me. I’m not suggesting anything to you that I’m not practicing myself. Like I’ve been saying to you in all my post, “You are not alone.” Let’s walk this place called Life together. Your past won’t let go so easy but you have the power of choice to let go of it.

Coloring as a Meditative Practice

Coloring as a Meditative Practice
Hey Phamily! I have a surprise for you! My good friend and author/mentor Alicia McCalla (and yes you must check out her website and subscribe, awesome writer of Multicultural Speculative Fiction) is my guest blogger for this week! Yay!!! She and her sisters (affectionately, the Cunningham Sisters) designed a coloring book for adults that desire to meditate in another form or just relax.
Phamily, you’ve been doing a lot of inner soul work these past few weeks with me that had your brain, organs, cells, and bones dealing with trauma filled places. Today, right now, this present moment, go get your crayons, your child’s crayons, or go and purchase them from the Dollar Store. But first before you grab your purse or wallet, sit down and read how coloring can help you be in a position of authority to reconnect to the alienated parts of your soul. I introduce to you Alicia McCalla, the eldest of the Cunningham sisters.

crayons

Did you know that opening a box of Crayola crayons and then smelling them is a way to reduce the anxiety associated with a panic attack?  Coloring has a way of helping us to calm down, reduce stress, and relax.

Active meditation is the use of repetitive motions such as running, walking, dancing, and of course, coloring. In fact, coloring can help to strengthen focus and shift your attention to a contemplative state. While you color, chaotic thoughts and extreme worries are pushed aside. Your brain is able to simply focus on the task of the gentle, repetitive motion of your hands as you bring color to paper.

There are other health benefits to your brain while coloring such as the selection of the colors and focusing your attention on highly detailed images.  These help your brain to open centers of creativity, ingenuity, and logical thoughts.  With all of the wonderful health benefits to coloring, you would think that everyone would regularly participate.  Unfortunately, meditative coloring is just beginning to take off in the United States.  If you are interested in an easy, affordable and cost effective way to reduce stress, boost creativity, and help your brain relax, try coloring.

  1. Make yourself a cup of healing herbal tea (Chamomile is great) or you might enjoy a small glass of Kosher red wine.

  2. Select your favorite coloring utensils. I love gel glitter pens but crayons, markers etc. are all wonderful to use.

  3. Begin your coloring session by smiling for one full minute. Don’t shirk on this one. Time yourself, if needed.

  4. Put on your iPod and listen to Alpha or Brainwave music. I have a BrainWave App and listen to “Positivity Boost.”

  5. Color your image. Allow the color choices to “speak” to you. Don’t push the choices just allow the choices to happen. Be amazed in the end…

  6. Drink your tea, listen to music, and color for a 30-60 minute session.

  7. After your session ends, if your image is complete, sign and date it.  You can also write any quotes, thoughts, or ideas that revealed themselves to you during your coloring session. Go ahead, write them on your coloring pages or keep a journal handy. Feel free to put your images in a frame or give them away as gifts.

Coloring is an amazing way to meditate, heal, and reduce stress.  Take some time to relax and color.
